Ikea is the number 1 home furnishing retailer in the world with over 287 stores in 26 countries producing total revenues for 2011 totaling $33 billion. Supplying these stores with goods is a vast network of over 1000 suppliers and 37 distribution centers. Managing the complications of such an involved supply chain presents many challenges especially considering quarterly product change overs and the maintenance of a low cost profile. Managing supply chain capacity and lowering distribution costs are a few of the current challenges that will be presented.

Joseph Comly is currently a project manager for Ikea in the US. He is responsible for the implementation of global supply chain systems for Ikea’s retail stores in the US. Recent projects have included installation of RF technology, forecasting and ordering software upgrades and in-store sales planning software. Joe has worked for Ikea since 2002 in various logistics roles including operations and finance. He has a bachelors degree from Shippensburg University and an MBA from Villanova University. Joe also serves on the board of directors for Rebuilding Together Philadelphia as treasurer.
